2 arrested after chasing stolen vehicle crashes in La Mesa

A driver and a passenger were arrested Wednesday on charges of leading a San Diego police pursuit that culminated in a crash in La Mesa, police said.

San Diego police said the couple were in a stolen vehicle. When police tried to pull them over – it’s unclear where – they didn’t stop. Officers pursued the vehicle as the vehicle headed east into La Mesa.

In the University and Lee Avenue area, the driver and passenger abandoned the vehicle and ran in different directions, Officer David O’Brien said.

OnScene TV recorded surveillance footage showing the driver and front passenger jumping out of a moving car in a parking lot. The car rammed into a parked car when police stopped.

O’Brien said the passenger was arrested shortly after the pair fled. The driver was arrested following a search involving a police helicopter.

No further information was immediately available.
