4 injured in shooting outside Arkansas high school graduation ceremony

Four people were reportedly shot and killed Thursday night in a fight outside the convention center where high school graduations are held in Arkansas.

According to Sentinel-Record, citing police and school officials, gunfire broke out in a hotel parking lot near the Springs Convention Center shortly after the ceremony to honor the seniors at the Springs World-Class High School.

Officials said the victims were not students and they were expected to survive, according to the Arkansas Democratic Gazette.

One of the victims may have been an innocent bystander, a district spokesperson told The Sentinel-Record.

HSPD Sergeant Omar Cervantes told Gazette that a “big fight” broke out in a nearby parking lot, leading to the shooting.

It is unclear what sparked the dispute.

“We can confirm that none of our current students or graduates were involved,” Springs School District Superintendent Stephanie Nehus wrote on Facebook.

“Our law enforcement officers and staff will do everything we can to assist in the investigation. Our hearts and minds go out to all those injured tonight.”

No arrests had been made by Friday morning.
