A USFL team fired a player because he wanted pizza instead of trashy chicken salad

This weekend marks the start of the 2022 edition of the USFL, and almost immediately we have one of the dumbest football stories ever. Pittsburgh Maulers post a video of them cutting running back De’Veon Smith and it feels like this have It’s fake because of how ridiculous it is, but it’s obviously very real.

Smith was released for asking for a slice of pizza.

Rather, he was fired for wanting pizza instead of chicken salad. Maulers coach Kirby Wilson broke the news to Smith, arguing that his pizza needs violated a stipulation in players’ contracts not to “disrespect football or members, staff, USFL, hotels, etc.”

Considering that Smith said he had dinner with the team and asked for a slice of pizza, and when he was turned down, a staff member said “could this be a problem?”, which seemed overkill. The player answers “yes”.

We don’t know exactly what the problem with Maulers is because they never explain it to the player. Kirby Wilson has always thanked Smith for providing the team with his story, but he’d be disrespectful to the team by sticking to his point of view, asking for pizza spice and getting a little pissed off when it was rejected.

We now know what Smith was referring to when he posted the tweet last Friday.

I don’t hate anyone’s yum, but in my humble opinion, Smith is 100% right that chicken salad is crap. Without a doubt, this is the worst chicken preparation ever. Chicken is so delicious and there are so many different ways you’re going to rinse some dry chicken breast in mayo, add some chopped celery, and crap like walnuts and grapes and call it culinary fun? Certainly not.

I support De’Veon Smith for wanting pizza not chicken salad. Screw Maulers for this.
