Arsenal’s readiness to trade Pablo Mari for Udinese full-back Nawel Molina this summer has been confirmed in Italy.
The Gunners are currently fourth in the Premier League table with 66 points from 35 games, four ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham. With just three games left, they are expected to win the Champions League next season.
Arsenal’s performances this season have landed Mikel Arteta a new contract at the club. After giving the Spaniard a new contract, the north London giants are now expected to back him in the upcoming transfer window.
With Alexandre Lacazette’s contract set to expire in the summer and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having left the club, the Gunners are expected to sign a new striker. It appears that right-back is also an area they hope to strengthen ahead of the 2022-23 season.
According to Italian media reports Tutto Udinese, Arsenal are closely watching Udinese right-back Molina. If reports are to be believed, they are even ready to include Mali in the Argentine’s swap deal.
It is worth noting that Mari is currently on loan at a top Italian club. The 28-year-old has made 14 appearances for the team since joining on an interim deal in January.
The Spaniard does not appear to have a place in Arteta’s future plans as he is ranked below Ben White, Gabriel Magallus and Rob Holding. Therefore, if Arsenal can get Molina in return, they are ready to make him permanent at Udinese.
Molina has played 35 games for Udinese so far this season. The Argentina international scored seven goals and provided four assists in the process.
Could Arsenal’s Mari make permanent Udinese move?
Udinese general manager Franco Colavino has been impressed with Mali’s personality since he joined the Friulians. However, he has been tight-lipped when discussing the Spaniard’s future at the club.He said daily [via Sport Witness]:
“He’s shown leadership and personality, but he’s coming from Arsenal. At the moment, nothing concrete.”
Mali joined the Gunners on an initial loan deal from Brazilian club Flamengo in January 2020. The north London giants went on to make the move permanent, with a move of up to £14m the following summer.
The centre-back has a total of 22 appearances in all competitions for the Premier League club. He still has two years left on his deal with them, but will be leaving soon.
