Baseball Playoffs: Fullerton, Newport Harbor, Estancia Win in Regional Semifinals

Kyle Kim and Conor Sunderland’s homers and Nate Norman’s three-point double lead the Fullerton baseball team to a 10-6 win over Burbank’s CIF SoCal Regional Playoff Division 5 semifinals at Fullerton High School on Thursday. Burroughs.

Sunderland hit a one-run homer in the bottom half of the first inning and King hit a two-run homer in the fourth to tie it 2-2.


Fullerton led 7-6 in the sixth, and Norman flew to center after a 3-pointer, but missed a chance to clear the outfield fence by a foot.

Matthew Carbajal had an easy victory with a scoreless run of 2 1/3.

Fullerton (26-9) faced the winner of Friday’s Moreno Valley-Tesoro semifinal in the Fifth Division on Saturday. Fullerton is Saturday’s home team if Moreno Valley wins. Tesoro, who beat Fullerton in the CIF-SS Division 4 Championship two weeks ago, will be the home team in the final if they win.

8 Newport Harbor, 2 Chula Vista East Lake: Sam DiCarlo pitched a full game, and freshman Elijah Hasted went 3-for-3 to give the Mariners a road win.

The Mariners (21-12) will play Oaks Christian (23-11) on the final Saturday.

Newport Ports lost 3-2 to Oaks Christian in the CIF-SS Division 3 semifinals on May 17.

Lucas Perez and Joey Wright each had two hits for the Mariners. AJ Guitron-Moore drove twice for Newport Harbour, once on a safety squeeze.

In the Division V semifinals

Estancia 4, Kennedy in Delano 3: Jack Moyer’s fourth-inning double came in at Andrew Mitz, which would have been a win for the Eagles.

Estancia (30-5) will host Friday’s Baldwin Park-Anaheim semifinalist on Saturday.

Estancia trailed 3-0 going into the third half. James Drago’s third-quarter single kicked off the Eagles’ first game, and a turnover in the game allowed the scoring in Game 2. Cole Lefebvre’s single tied the score.

Mitters doubled in the second half of the fourth and scored on Moyer’s double to make it 4-3.

Estancia has won 12 games in a row. Estancia beat Anaheim in the CIF-SS Division 6 final two weeks ago. Estancia is 19-1 at home this season.
