Britain announces sanctions against Kabaeva, the mistress of Russian President Putin

The British government announced that it would sanction Russian President Putin’s mistress and former Olympic gymnastics champion Kabayeva (right) on the grounds that she has close ties with Putin (left).Reuters

The British government said in a statement on the 13th that Kabayeva was “rumoured” to be Putin’s girlfriend. The Wall Street Journal also previously reported that US officials believe Kabaeva is Putin’s girlfriend, with whom he has at least three illegitimate children, despite Washington delaying sanctions against Kabaeva. However, Kremlin officials and Kabaeva have long denied links between the two.

The United Kingdom also announced on the same day that Kabaeva’s grandmother, Putin’s ex-wife Lyudmila, and Putin’s cousin Roman Putin were also approved.
