Community activist Eunisses Hernandez, 32, is expected to be the next representative for the Los Angeles City Council’s 1st District.
Hernandez currently leads incumbent Gil Cedillo 54% to 46%, and although the election has yet to be finalized — Los Angeles County still has nearly 14,000 ballots to be counted — she has declare victory.
Zedillo, who declined to comment for this story, has yet to concede victory.
Hernandez, a self-described abolitionist, is campaigning on a platform that includes criminal justice reform.
