In the first round of the Indonesia Open 2021, Kevin/Marcus met representatives of Japan, Keiichiro Matsui/Yoshinori Takeuchi. The match should have been won easily by Marcus/Kevin because the Minions level – Marcus/Kevin’s nickname- is still far above Matsui/Takeuchi (ranked 43 in the world).

However, Marcus/Kevin started the match with a defeat in the first game. The Minions seemed helpless to face Matsui/Takeuchi who finally gave up with a score of 12-21 at the beginning of the game.
In the second game, Marcus/Kevin’s energy was getting depleted. Several times they showed different games, namely long rallies. Playing with difficulty, the Minions finally won the second game with a score of 21-18.

However, the victory was not entirely felt positively by Marcus / Kevin. The tight schedule made them only able to get a short break and had time to protest to the BWF.
Even so angry, Kevin vented his anger to admit playing resignedly against Matsui / Takeuchi. Even if they lose in the first round of the Indonesia Open 2021, it won’t be a problem for the Minions.
“We don’t have any special preparations, there’s nothing to lose. Even if you lose, what can you do, with the conditions as they are, we will play here,” Kevin told the media crew at the Bali International Convention Center, Tuesday (23/11/2021).
For information, players who usually play finals in previous tournaments have the opportunity to take a two-day break and play on Wednesday in the next consecutive event. If the player is in the top flight and has to play Tuesday, the BWF grants a waiver to continue playing on Wednesday. Unfortunately, this did not happen to Marcus/Kevin at the Indonesia Open 2021.
