Disneyland teases Red Car Trolley return this summer

The Red Car Trolley adds essential momentum to Buena Vista Street, while also paying homage to the entry Esplanade’s 1920s Los Angeles theme, returning to Disney California Adventure shortly after a three-year absence.

Disneyland teased the red car trolley’s summer return to Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure on Disneyland’s official TikTok account.

The Red Car News Boys cart show, which was canceled in 2019, will not be returning with the Red Car cart this summer.

DCA’s Red Car Trolley closed in April 2019 to allow construction of the Avengers campus. At the time, carts were expected to return in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted those plans.

Disneyland and DCA were closed for more than a year in March 2020 due to the pandemic, and since a phased reopening began at the theme park resort in April 2021, the park has slowly restored attractions, shops, restaurants over the past year and recreational activities.

The Avengers campus, which was delayed due to the pandemic, opened in June 2021, with tram tracks running through a corner of Marvel’s theme park. The fan-favorite red cart is an occasional regular on the track, but it hasn’t carried passengers for over three years.

With the addition of the Avengers campus, the red car cart brings some thematic challenges to the Walt Disney Fantasy Project. The cart was launched in 2012 as part of a reimagining of the DCA’s entrance promenade with a thematic theme that pays homage to Walt Disney’s Los Angeles in the 1920s.

When the trolley made its debut, the red car traveled along Hollywood and Sunset Boulevard entertainment and past the Hollywood Tower Hotel, which was once a Twilight Tower of Horror attraction. The red car cart barn is hidden in the backstage between the Tower of Terror and the former Bug Land.

As fans know, the Tower of Terror became the Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout and Bug Land was dismantled to make way for the Avengers campus. The trolley track route now passes through the futuristic Guardians Ride Building and into the high-tech Marvel campus – neither of which escapes the retro vibe of 1920s Los Angeles.

The trolley tracks run through a corner of the Avengers campus, near the Pym Test Kitchen, and through a door hidden inside the Avengers headquarters building. When the Red Car finally returns this summer, Marvel fans immersed in the superhero scene may be surprised to see the cart occasionally pass by the high-tech superhero campus.

DCA’s Red Car Trolley is modeled after the Pacific Electric Railroad that traversed Los Angeles from 1887 to 1961. The trolley serves as transportation, carrying passengers across Buena Vista Street and Hollywood Land, stopping near the DCA’s main entrance, the Carthay Circle restaurant, the Animation Academy building, and the Hyperion Theater.
