Finnish President, Prime Minister Joint Statement: Apply for NATO membership “without delay”

Sky News reported that Finland should apply to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization “without delay” as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues.

“We hope that the necessary national steps to take this decision will be swiftly taken in the coming days,” Finnish President Saulie Niinisto and Prime Minister Sanna Marin said in a joint statement.


“As the time for decision making draws near, we share our views and inform parliamentary groups and political parties,” the statement said. “NATO membership will strengthen Finland’s security, and as a NATO member, Finland will strengthen the country as a whole.” Defense Coalition. “Finland must apply for NATO membership without delay.”
