Texas officials said Thursday they were looking for a convicted killer who fled a correctional bus, they said, stabbing the driver in the hand and forcing the vehicle off a dairy farm highway.
Authorities sent police dogs and helicopters to search for Artemio Lopez, a 46-year-old prisoner serving a life sentence for killing a man with an ax.
“As you can see from his records, he’s very dangerous,” Robert Hurst, a public information officer with the state Criminal Justice Department, said in a phone interview Thursday night.
The department said several police agencies have joined the search for inmates in rural areas near Centerville, Texas. The city is located between Dallas and Houston.
