‘I’m not worried about him at all’ – Everton boss Frank Lampard remains calm on the 25-year-old’s future amid Arsenal and Newcastle United interest

Several recent reports have suggested Arsenal and Newcastle United are interested in signing Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer. However, Toffees boss Frank Lampard has now made it clear he wants to keep the England striker, while also raving about the 25-year-old.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin rose to prominence in his first two seasons, scoring 36 goals in 80 appearances for Everton.

However, Calvert-Lewin has been plagued by injuries this season, making just 15 appearances in all competitions, scoring just three goals. Although the club’s new boss Lampard has had little chance of working with him, he doesn’t appear to have any doubts about the striker’s value and pedigree.

Lampard is aware that Calvert-Lewin has reportedly received attention from Arsenal and Newcastle United, both clubs in search of a quality striker this summer. However, according to Metro, Lampard has made it very clear that he thinks highly of the 25-year-old and that the English striker has a big part in his plans for the club.

“He’s a great striker and he doesn’t have a lot of striker pedigree around. It’s unfortunate for me, I think, that I didn’t make him fit.

“His time is minimal, but we know a striker – especially in any position – needs play, fitness and confidence.

“We were never able to get Dominic to be fair to him. But yeah, he’s a great player, they’re not common. He signed with us, he has three years left on his contract and I want to lead this club Going forward, players like Dominic can help him.

Lampard continued:

“I know he’s not playing now because he’s been getting fit, but now he’s fit, so hopefully he can contribute to the starting lineup in the last few games and then he’s our player.

While Lampard did admit there was interest in Calvert-Lewin, he claimed it was normal for a player at that level and the speculation didn’t worry him. He said:

“He’s a player the club wants because of the level of his players. There aren’t many strikers out there and they spend a lot of money. I’m not worried about him at all.”

There is no doubt that Arsenal will be in the market for a striker this summer. The Gunners lost their top striker Pierre-Emerick-Aubameyang to Barcelona earlier this year and have yet to replace the influential striker.

To make matters worse, the Gunners are likely to lose Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah this summer, both of whose contracts expire at the end of the season as no new deals have been struck.

Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin could be a suitable target, but it remains to be seen what Arsenal’s plan of action is after Frank Lampard publicly revealed he wants to keep the striker.

Notably, the Gunners are also believed to be targeting Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus, but will have to resist interest from several other clubs if they seek to sign the Brazilian striker.
