The Australian former two-division world champion believes the “King of the Underground” can return and feels he is the right person to succeed him.

Martin Nguyen said in an interview with ONE Championship:

“I think it’s almost like the stars align. If Eddie Alvarez goes down to lightweight, why not? You know, it’s perfect. He’s got all the support, American fans. Let’s make it It happens, and I’m sure a lot of people will get involved.”

Both Alvarez and Nguyen were prolific knockout artists, with a combined 28 knockouts in 44 victories. Seeing them in the same circle as a pair definitely has a chance to steal the show.

“Situ-Asian” also believes that whoever wins their potential duel can put themselves in the spotlight for world champions.

“I’m absolutely excited about the idea. It’s going to give me a chance to make a statement.”

Eddie Alvarez could be back in contention for ONE Championship world title

Eddie Alvarez is the only person to have won a world championship in both the UFC and Bellator. When he joins ONE in 2019, he hopes to get another top promotion.

However, he was greeted rudely by ONE Championship veteran Timofey Nastyukhin, who knocked him out in the first round. Five months later, he scored his first promotion win in the first round against former ONE lightweight world champion Eduard Folayang.

Eddie Alvarez, 38, is still a force to be reckoned with in MMA, and he could be on the way to more world championship titles.

As ONE Championship looks to expand its presence in North America, Alvarez’s return could help add more star power to the highly anticipated ONE 161 card.
