Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif believes Ravichandran Ashwin couldn’t have been better against Delhi Capitals in the IPL on Wednesday. Cave believed Ashwin to play well on a track that wasn’t easy to hit.
As in the past few games, Rajasthan Royals have lifted Ashwin to third and the perimeter player has exceeded expectations for the Willows. The veteran hit 50 of 38 balls after the tragic deaths of Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal. He scored the most for the Royals and added 53 of Devdutt Padikkal’s 36 deliveries.
In Sportskeeda’s outspokenness, Kaif claimed that raising Ashwin’s order was a strategic move, as Sanju Samson had to play the finisher in Shimron Hetmyer’s absence. Cave praised Ashwin’s adaptability to tricky pitches, saying:
“The Rajasthan Royals are playing horses for the pitch match, as the game demands. It was the right plan and after Hetmyer’s absence, Samson came down to finish the game. Ashwin played his part perfectly because the ball It’s not easy to hit the ball on the pitch. David Warner also had multiple close shaves, the ball went into the air and fell, it hit the stump, but the bail ball didn’t fall. So it’s not An easy track to hit, and I love Ashwin’s shot.”
Despite the platform provided by the Tamil Nadu-born player’s 50-year-old, the Royals couldn’t get a perfect finish. Samson and Riyan Parag scored in the single digits, while Padikkal, who was 48 of 30 from the field, died while shooting.
“Rajasthan Royals under pressure as they have 14 points” – Mohamed Keef
The 41-year-old feels the pressure on the Royals, who could lose their remaining two games due to the unpredictability of the format. Acknowledging that Shimron Hetmyer’s finishing touches were decisive for them, Kaif said:
“They are under pressure because they have 14 points. Gujarat Titans have 18 points. At 14, they could even lose two games because anything can happen in T20 format. They need Hetmyer around, Because of his absence it felt like no other player could hit the ball in his place. Padikal died in the hunt for the big shots, and Ashwin died.”
“Rajasthan lost this game in the last four rounds when Hetmyer arrived and made a big hit, instead of 180, they only hit 160. So, Hetmyer was missed and they need to give him a good one. Tickets to come back soon. He has become a father and has to translate that happiness into a Rajasthan show. It will not be easy as they face two must-win matches.”
Samson and Co. will next take on the Lucknow Super Giants at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on the 15th.
