Sources confirmed to The Times that the Lakers received permission to interview Golden State Warriors assistant coach Kenny Atkinson.

Atkinson, the former head coach of Brooklyn, joined Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors last season before the Clippers joined Tyronn Lue’s staff.

Atkinson, 54, went 118-190 in three-plus seasons with the Nets. He is considered one of the top development coaches in the NBA.

He joins Milwaukee assistant Darwin Ham, Toronto assistant Adrian Griffin and former head coaches Mark Jackson and Terry Stotts as high-profile candidates.
