According to the US Attorney’s Office, 56-year-old Diamond Bar resident Steve Lee Dominguez was indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of prejudice-motivated interference with federally protected activities. Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles.

According to the indictment, on March 21, 2021, at a rally to stop Asian-American hatred at the Diamond Bar, Dominguez went to the scene to chant “go back to China” and other racial slurs at protesters. He then deliberately drove his car through an intersection with sidewalk, ran a red light, turned the car illegally, and cut off the legal crossings of several rally participants.

Prosecutors say the rally is a protest against a rise in hate crimes and incidents against Asian-Pacific Americans locally and nationally, including the murder of six Asian-American women in Atlanta just five days ago.

Prosecutors said the victims included an Asian woman with a sign saying “Stop Asian Hate”. There was another black girl with a sign in her hand that read, “End Violence Against Asians.” Another who was nearly killed on the sidewalk at the crossroads was nine years old. The car Dominguez was driving almost came into contact with the victims, but fortunately no one was reported to be injured.

Dominguez allegedly pulled his car to a stop just a short distance from the intersection, got out of the car and continued to make racial slurs and threats to protesters. He then called the police, calling himself “John Doe”, and lied to the police that rally participants were blocking the road and had to run a red light “because they were about to trample my car.”

Dominguez also asked police to control traffic at the intersection, the indictment said. If convicted on both counts, he faces up to 20 years in federal prison.
