Man who walked dog in city centre arrested in ‘vicious and unprovoked’ fatal shooting

A 21-year-old Texas man was arrested last month after he was shot and killed by a man walking his dog downtown, officials announced Thursday.

After an extensive investigation, Clifton Kamal Styles was arrested Wednesday at his home in San Marcos, Texas, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

He was arrested in Texas as a fugitive on a murder warrant and faces extradition to Los Angeles

Marco Sandoval, 52, was randomly attacked and shot while walking his dog near the intersection of Genesee Avenue and Saturn Street around 5 a.m. on March 12, an investigation has revealed.

The gunman got out of the vehicle, spoke to Sandoval and opened fire, hitting him several times, police said at the time. The suspect then returned to his car, described as a charcoal gray 2020 Ford Fusion SE, and drove away from the scene.

Sandoval’s dog was uninjured and went home on his own, police said.

“Stiles may have suffered from mental illness and travelled across the country before killing Sandoval in this unprovoked murder,” LAPD officials said in a news release.

Police believe he traveled from San Marcos to Florida before cross-country trek to Los Angeles

He then allegedly traveled to San Diego and then returned to San Marcos.

“Investigators are concerned that Styles may have been involved in other acts of predatory violence,” police said.

Anyone with further information about Styles is asked to contact LAPD’s West Bureau Homicide at 213-382-9470.
