Manchester United are preparing for the final game of the Premier League season. Interim manager Ralph Rangnick’s side travel to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Meanwhile, renowned transfer pundit Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo could remain at Old Trafford next season. Elsewhere, Rio Ferdinand has backed the club’s pursuit of Frenkie de Jong.
On that note, here are the key Manchester United transfer stories as of 13 May 2022:
Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at Old Trafford, reveals Fabrizio Romano
Cristiano Ronaldo has no plans to leave Manchester United this summer, Fabrizio Romano has revealed. The Portuguese have endured a difficult campaign since returning to their alma mater last summer. This summer, he was told to leave to find greener pastures.
However, Romano said on the Wondergoal podcast (via thisisfutbal) that Ronaldo is in no rush to leave the club, scoring 24 goals in all competitions.
“So I checked at Cristiano’s side a few days ago, what’s the feeling about these Manchester United rumours? With his future? What’s going to happen? The answer I got was that Cristiano was in no hurry to leave. Cristiano Not planning to leave the club and not disappointed with the club,” Romano said.
Ronaldo, though, is ready to endure his first trophy-free campaign in 12 years.
Rio Ferdinand backs Manchester United’s pursuit of Frenkie de Jong
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand wants Old Trafford’s Frenkie de Jong. The Barcelona midfielder is expected to leave the Camp Nou this summer, with the Red Devils vying for his signature.
De Jong would be an excellent addition to the club, Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel, “The Atmosphere of the Five” (via Sport365).
“I always thought of him as a top player. I followed him closely in the Champions League semi-finals; I saw a lot of him as part of the BT team. They said Frenkie de Jong could be the first to join under Erik 10 Hag of players, I would say ‘yes, great signing’. He’s not big, but he’s fast on the ball, dribbles really well, gets out of tight situations, makes the right decisions, great A passer, his balance and dribbling ability are very good,” Ferdinand said.
“(Manchester United) is a team looking for a player who can control the ball and control the game and make the team work in terms of balance and possession; I think he’d be a good addition. He’s not like Bruno Fernandes. Scores a lot of goals, but he’s more about directing the game. He gives you more of the other elements in the game that Manchester United need.”
Paddy Kenny wants Ralph Rangnick to resign
Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny has been unimpressed by Ralph Rangnick’s contributions at Manchester United since he took over. The German manager will move upstairs this summer while also taking charge of the Austrian national team.
Kenny told Football Insider that Rangnick should leave the Red Devils and focus on his work in Austria.
“Well, the club is all over the place and you put this guy in another job. First of all, he’s done absolutely nothing to justify his stay next season. I know it’s agreed but the whole club needs to change , he should quit, really. Secondly, how can he focus on two jobs? Why should he stay? Of course, he wants to focus entirely on the Austrian job,” Kenny said.
“If Austria starts to underperform, you know what people will say. They will tell him to leave Manchester United to focus on his work. I think he will end up leaving sometime this summer or next season, which I don’t think is sustainable, So I think he’s going to leave.”
