A Mississippi school district has upheld its decision to fire an administrator for reading a book called “I Need a New Ass!” For sophomores – but fired administrator vows to take the fight to court.

toby price He was fired as deputy principal at Gary Road Elementary School in Byram in March, but he appealed the Hinds County superintendent’s decision and only knows how the school board voted this week, the Clarion-Ledger reported.

According to reports, Price was asked to step in and read to the children during the Zoom class after the intended reader — the principal — did not show up.

“I was asked to read … here we are,” he told the paper this week. “I’m really sad. I don’t think it had to happen this way.”

The veteran, who has worked in education for two years, told Ledger he plans to sue to get his job back.

Price had said Dwayne McMillan’s “stupid” book was “one of his favorites,” but director Delessia Martin said it crossed the line by showing “the private areas of the body.”

Members of the Hinds school board held a hearing on Price’s appeal on April 28, before voting on his fate behind closed doors. The board’s 12-page decision was just handed to the fired educator on Monday, Ledger reported.

Of the five members of the school board, only two voted for the dismissal, two abstained and one voted against, the paper said.

“He did not see an issue with school administrators desensitizing adult nudity and child nudity by exposing them to children in his care,” the decision said.

“At the very least, it convinces children that all types of behaviors are nothing to worry about — they’re just fun. However, these activities are dangerous for children.”

The committee alleges that a child took off his pants in class and repeatedly used the word “ass” while knocking on the administrator’s door after reading the story, Ledger said.
