Adrian Wojnarowski didn’t make any friends on draft night when he snubbed the first three picks and wrecked the No. 1 pick.
Usually, Woj bombs are invulnerable. When ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said to expect something to happen in the NBA world, it did.
That wasn’t the case Thursday as the dramatic opening of the 2022 NBA Draft unfolded
In the morning, Wojnarowski tweeted the draft order as indicated by the source.
He wrote: “The 1-2-3 formation of the NBA draft is getting firmer as the team’s board of directors finalizes today, according to sources: Jabari Smith to Orlando, Chet Holmgren to Oklahoma Marshall, Paul Banchero to Houston.”
Then, minutes before the No. 1 pick, Woj surprised everyone by reporting that Duke’s Banchero was in contention to be drafted by the Magic.
This is exactly what happened. Orlando drafted Banchero, not Smith, as Woj originally pointed out.
Someone called Freezing Cold Takes, even though getting mad at that Twitter account sounds more desirable than confronting the NBA Twitter mob with torches and pitchforks.
To say people are unhappy is an understatement. Those who bet money on Smith as the No. 1 pick were especially outraged.
NBA Twitter unhappy with Adrian Wojnarowski during draft
Others were unhappy to see Wojnarowski covering the ESPN broadcast, essentially destroying the No. 1 pick. For NBA draft viewers who want to see picks unfold as they happen, it has become common to mute or block him on Twitter due to draft pick tips.
They can’t escape this Woj bomb.
After Duke drafted Banchero, Oklahoma City went as planned, taking Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren. That puts Smith third in Houston.
It’s the top three that everyone expected, it’s just upside down.
