Pop Mart opens first US store in Southern California

Pop Mart, a global entertainment company known for art toys and collectibles, has opened its first pop-up store in the United States in Costa Mesa.

The 2,148-square-foot store at South Coast Plaza offers art toys designed and inspired by pop culture. The company says it has recruited a number of designers, including Kenny, Pucky, Ayan, Kasing Lung and Skullpanda, to launch thousands of pieces that resonate with clients.

These toys include Zoe Monster Story, Skullpanda X The Adams Family, Duckoo in the Kitchen, Bobo and Coco Go Camping, Philip Colbert Lobster Land, and more.

Pop Mart has also partnered with Disney and Warner Bros. for the Harry Potter series and Marvel classics. The company is also known for its “blind boxes,” which contain random novelties of all kinds that buyers never see until they open them.

In recent years, the phenomenon of blind boxes has intensified, giving birth to a new buzzword – “blind box economy”.

Founded in 2010, the Beijing-based company operates in 23 countries and regions, with more than 350 brick-and-mortar stores and more than 1,800 Robo Shop vending machines around the world.

Justin Moon, vice president of Pop Mart and president of Pop Mart International, said the U.S. is No. 1 in the global toy market.

“The global influence of American pop culture cannot be underestimated, with young people espousing personal expression,” Moon said. “Pop Mart wants to ignite passion, bring joy, and connect with local young people in a more diverse way.”

The company plans to expand in the U.S., but must reveal the exact location of future stores.

Pop Mart is the fastest-growing art toy brand in China in terms of retail value, according to a report by Frost & Sullivan, a research firm hired by the company to draft its IPO prospectus.
