Stabbing in Escondido leads to blockade of nearby secondary school

Escondido police said a high school boy was slightly injured in an incident Thursday afternoon that resulted in the closure of nearby Mission Middle School.

Escondido Police Lieutenant Craig Miller said the stabbing occurred just before 2 p.m. on East Mission Avenue near the middle school between North Fig and North Ash streets. The stabbing did not occur on the school’s campus.

Police responded and found the victim was conscious, breathing and able to speak, Miller said. Paramedics took him to hospital, which turned out to be non-life threatening wounds.

As a precaution, officials locked down Mission Middle School during the response, Miller said.A man suspected of being involved in the stabbing was last seen heading east on Mission Avenue, but only a vague description of him was immediately available and no one was in custody as of 3 p.m.

There were no other details about the incident Thursday afternoon.
