Barcelona have joined the race to sign Chelsea target Jules Kunde, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed. He said that many clubs are interested in the Sevilla centre-back, so it is difficult for Barcelona to complete the transfer.
Sevilla star Kunde is one of the most popular centre-backs in the world right now. He’s a great blocker, calm under pressure and a leader at defenders.
The Londoners, who have already lost Antonio Rudiger to Real Madrid and are set to see Andreas Christensen leave as a free agent on July 1, could take advantage of Kounde’s attributes.
According to Romano, their pursuit of the Frenchman is unlikely to be straightforward, as La Liga giants Barcelona have their sights set on him as well. Romano said to Wett Freunde:
“Now Barcelona have joined the bandwagon. We have to wait. Like Barcelona, one has to look at the financial situation and whether they can reach a financial agreement with Sevilla.”
He added that Sevilla had set a price tag of 80 million euros for Kunde but were willing to accept a bid of 75 million euros. Romano continued:
“Jules Kounde is currently sold for 80 million euros. Sevilla are willing to accept 65 million pounds (about 75 million euros), so anyone who wants him has to pay that.”
The transfer expert continued:
“Chelsea know this and now Barcelona know it too. Barca will try to get their players involved in negotiations. But let’s see what decision Chelsea will take because they want to sign two centre-backs this summer and he is One of them is Nathan Ake at Manchester City. It’s a crazy business, it’s very open, there are a lot of clubs drawing lots. I think it’s going to be difficult for Barcelona.”
Kunde played 44 games for Sevilla in the 2021-22 season, scoring 3 goals and having 1 assist.
Chelsea nearly signed Barcelona target Jules Kunde last summer
According to Romano, the Blues came close to securing Kunde last summer. However, the deal fell apart at the last minute, with the Andalusian rejecting the Blues’ latest offer in the final week of the transfer window.
The Blues have been in touch with player representatives since then. However, personnel changes at Stamford Bridge – with sporting director Marina Granovskaia no longer at the helm and the addition of a new boss – have made things even more tricky. Dissecting the complexities of transfer, Romano said:
“It’s a tricky situation. Chelsea have been interested in Kunde for a long time. He was one step away from joining Chelsea last summer. It was very close; it was in the closing stages and then Sevilla decided to reject the final offer. – in the last week of the transfer window.”
“Chelsea have been in touch with Kunde’s agent throughout the year since then. They had a good conversation about the salary. But now Chelsea’s responsibilities have changed, sporting director Marina Granovskaya said. No longer leading negotiations with the Blues.”
“While she continues to help this summer, Todd Boley is the negotiator. So Kunde’s agent is waiting for Chelsea to say if they make a final offer.”
