Two-year-old girl attacked by coyotes in Southern California park

A 2-year-old girl was attacked by a coyote at a park in Southern California on Thursday, police said.

The young girl was attacked at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley about 8:30 p.m., the Fountain Valley Police Department said.

The child was taken to an area hospital for treatment, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife told KTLA.

The attack was not immediately reported to authorities, and the coyotes were not immediately located.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) are currently euthanizing coyotes in the area, according to police.

“Communities are encouraged to continue the haze and closely monitor children and pets,” police said in a news release.
