Roman Reigns will not be defending the WWE Universal Championship at the upcoming Hell in a Cell event. However, he is expected to defend the title at Money in the Bank on July 2 in Las Vegas. But it doesn’t look like Drew McIntyre is his planned opponent.
WWE reportedly wants Reigns to appear on big shows like Money in the Bank as the first line of defense for a unified WWE Universal Championship. Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has stated that Drew McIntyre will not face Roman Reigns on the show.
He stated that WWE is saving a match between Raines and McIntyre’s Castle Fight, which will take place in the UK. The current options for the Reigns’ MITB counterparts are Bobby Lashley and Randy Orton.
“This situation is changing all the time but the plan now is not a McIntyre challenge as the working concept is a Reigns v McIntyre game in Cardiff on September 3. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of options because Go DePauw vs. Raines has been blown away, and so has Lesnar, although you can always do it again. The only other person pushed to that level at this point is Bobby Lashley or Randy Orton,” Meltzer said.

Meltzer also said that despite Nakamura’s teasing of Roman Reigns. The former’s loss to Sami Zayn on SmackDown essentially made him a candidate.
Choosing between Bobby Lashley and Randy Orton, Orton seems more likely to get the shot. Viper has recently been involved in a rivalry with The Bloodline, even facing the Reigns in a 6-player tag team match at WrestleMania Backlash.
Orton and his tag team partner Riddle and Drew McIntyre face off against The Usos and Reigns. The team calling itself RK-McBro couldn’t beat Reigns and his cousins.
